Bristol City Council
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Coordinator (Senior Practitioner)
An opportunity has arisen for a registered practitioner (Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Nurse etc.) with a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification to undertake the role of Coordinator within the Bristol City Council Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team.
The DoLS team consists of a core team of BIAs who carry out the majority of the DoLS assessments for Bristol City Council. As a DoLS Coordinator, you will support the BIAs to carry out their work and you will be supported by the Team Manager and the other Coordinators. The team also has DoLS Administrators who process the DoLS applications through the various stages and you would be involved in ensuring this operates effectively.
You will have a sound knowledge of the principles and application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and be willing to undertake the responsibilities of a BIA if required. The Coordinator role involves the prioritisation and allocation of work and the scrutiny of work submitted to ensure legal compliance and quality assurance. You will provide reflective supervision to the staff within the DoLS team as well as being a source of advice and guidance for Adult Care colleagues and external stakeholders in matters relating to MCA and DoLS. You will also be responsible for the induction and training of new starters.
The Mental Capacity Amendment Act (2019) will replace DoLS with the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS). The Bristol City Council LPS project is underway with the aim that the implementation of LPS comes into effect in April 2022. The DoLS team is an integral part of the project and so you will have a sound understanding of the current legislation and case law, with an ability to shape working processes for the team, and the skills to build relationships with social care teams internally, along with key partners and care providers externally.
